Chapter 11

I can’t stop thinking about what Kat told me. How is it possible she is both a vampire and a necromancer? I did some research online and in our library since some of the books date back to the 1300s. I figure if anyone's heard or seen of it happening, there might be a record of it, somewhere.

I can’t find shit. Seems like if it did happen, no one wanted it known. That leads me to the second bit of truth she told me; her step-dad got her into the school. How could he have possible gotten her in with everything paid without paying any money himself?

I’ll figure more out once I start the apprenticeship under my dad, which will allow me to snoop around some more. Something about this seems weird and isn’t sitting well with me.

As I’m walking out of the library to head back to my dorm it starts to rain. Unprepared for the rain, I don’t have an umbrella, and suits aren’t really made for running, so I jog to try and prevent getting completely soaked. I hurry inside the Eastwood building and close the door behind me.

As I walk up the stairs to my dorm, I notice the water on my suit jacket seems to be beading up and moving towards my hands. “What in the actual fuck?” I say out loud. Once it hits my skin, my hand immediately absorbs it, like a sponge.

By the time I make it up the five flights of stairs I'm completely dry. This is starting to freak me out a bit. Not being able to ignore this any longer. I call the only person I feel comfortable talking about this with—Kat. So, I send her a text.

Me: Hey, do you want to hang out?

Kat: Sure, now?

Me: If you're not busy, yes.

Kat: All right, just give me a bit to finish up here and I'll head over.

Me: Okay, see you then.

I change out of my suit and into black jeans and a t-shirt, leaving my feet bare. I pace back and forth in my living room, trying to put into words all the weird things that have been going on with me over the past two months.

Kat doesn’t bother knocking and instead just walks in after she picks the lock. “Hey sweetheart,” I say, rolling my eyes, “how are you?” Not sure why I keep using cute little pet names, but I can't seem to stop thinking of her as mine.

“Hey, I’m all right, just spending all my time trying to fix up my bike.” She says with a little huff of frustration.

I look at her with confusion. “What happened to your bike?”

“Victoria happened,” she huffs again. “It’s no big deal though, nothing too extensive, just scratched it all to hell.”

“You need any help?” I ask, even though I have no clue how to fix a bike. “I could call a good repair shop?” I say, helplessly.

She laughs. “No, I’m good. I ordered most of the parts already and I can do the work myself.
